Senior games


Lincoln County participants triumphed at the North Carolina Senior Games State Finals in Raleigh, which took place Sept. 24-30. In 1983, North Carolina Senior Games began with a vision to create a year-round health promotion and education program for North Carolinians 55 years of age and better.  Lincoln County partnered with the Gaston County Senior Games and is part of a statewide network of 53 local programs sanctioned by North Carolina Senior Games, Inc. Senior Games is sponsored statewide by the North Carolina Division of Aging and Adult Services. NCSG also offers SilverArts, the statewide heritage, visual, literary and performing arts program; and the SilverStriders national award-winning walking program. The following participated from Lincoln County: Florence Beam, David Fisher, Bob Hodges, Robert Hovis, Phyllis Keener, William (Bill) Keever, Charles Mize, Libby Mize, Richard Olson, Trudy Perkins, Richard Sides and Sue Jane Sides. Two first-place, four second-place and three third-place awards were won, making the total nine.
First Place: Richard Sides – Cheerleading, Sue Jane Sides – Cheerleading
Second Place: David Fisher – Woodturning, Robert Hovis – Mixed Media, Robert Hovis – Pottery, Richard Sides – Spincasting
Third Place: Bob Hodges – Woodturning, Richard Sides – Badminton (Mixed Doubles), Sue Jane Sides – Badminton (Mixed Doubles)
