Missing teen found after answering her cell phone

Nearly a week after a local teen’s family reported her missing from her Denver residence, Lincoln County Sheriff’s detectives found her Friday morning in Gaston County, a Sheriff’s Office press release said.
Deputies called Amanda Marie Atkins’ cell phone Friday morning and met up with her at the tennis courts at South Point High School in Belmont, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The 16-year-old girl, who dropped out of North Lincoln High School earlier in November, ran away from her Lincoln County home last weekend, deputies said. Family told the Sheriff’s Office the teen had been in her room that evening but several hours later had fled the residence through a window.
Deputies turned Atkins over to her mother, who now lives in Gaston County.
