A head-on collision Wednesday night east of Lincolnton sent two women to the hospital with critical injuries, state troopers said.
Lorrie Beech, of Lincolnton, was rounding a curb while traveling west on N.C. 27 East, near Sunny Hill Drive, when her vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, according to Trooper C. Casey with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
When Beech overcorrected her Volvo, she crossed the center line and crashed just before 10 p.m. into 21-year-old Kayla Glenn’s Ford station wagon, which was traveling in the opposite lane, Casey told the Times-News on Friday.
Troopers said Beech had been intoxicated and playing with her phone when the wreck occurred. She’s been charged with one count each of DWI and careless and reckless driving.
Glenn, also of Lincolnton, was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Main in Charlotte with serious injuries, Casey said. Beech was initially transported to CMC-Lincoln but was later flown to Charlotte.
Neither victim’s current condition was available at time of publication.
