James Preston Garrett

Mr. James Preston Garrett, age 92, of Carillon Assisted Living, Lincolnton and formerly of 3309 Gardner Park Drive, Gastonia died Saturday, November 17, 2012.

His funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2012 in theWarlick Funeral HomeChapel. Burial will follow in Gaston Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. Tuesday atWarlick Funeral Home.

Mr. Garrett was born on July 27, 1920 in Greenville, S.C. He was retired from Homelite, Inc. He also worked at Burlington Industries for 25 years, was an Army veteran of World War II, an active member of the Lion’s Club and his church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and Deacon and was a fan of the Atlanta Braves. Mr. Garrett was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Garrett and a grandson, Jeffrey Garrett.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Gladys Montjoy Garrett; one daughter, Linda Goode and husband, Bob of Lincolnton; daughter-in-law, Gail Garrett of Gastonia; five grandchildren, Pamela Garrett, Todd Garrett, Jennifer Corregan and husband, Matt, Dinah Barkley, Amy Crisson and husband, Brian; eight great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Gastonia Building Fund, 2650 Union Road, Gastonia, NC 28054 or to Hospice of Lincoln County, 107 North Cedar Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092.

Myra Johnson Kemp

Myra Johnson Kemp, age 59, of 430 North Oak Street in Lincolnton died Friday, November 16, 2012.

Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2012 in theWarlick Funeral HomeChapel. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Kemp was born on July 17, 1953 and was the daughter of the late Jake Clyde Johnson. She worked in the real estate industry.

Mrs. Kemp is survived by her husband, Bill Kemp of the home; one step-son, Craig Kempinski of Raleigh; two step-daughters, Kim Mayes of Myrtle Beach and Kris Kempinski of Myrtle Beach; her mother, Ruth Bridges Johnson of Lincolnton; one sister, Judy Johnson High and husband, Steve of Lincolnton; three nephews, Devin High and wife, Jamie, Lance High and wife, Alicia and Landon High.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 201 Robin Road, Lincolnton, NC 28092.

Virginia Crane Haviland

Virginia Crane Haviland, age 94, of Carillon Assisted Living, and formerly of N.J., died on Saturday, November 17, 2012.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Haviland was born February 3, 1918 in Asbury Park, N.J. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Haviland, as well as her parents, Henry William Crane Jr. and Madora Drummond Ormerods Crane.  She worked as a librarian.

She is survived by a sister, Jeanne Siciliano of N.J.; a granddaughter, Tracey Swearns and husband Sean Searns of Dallas, N.C.; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan Swearns and Kristopher Cayce.

Kelan Huntley

Kelan Omar Huntley, 30 died.

Funeral services will be held November 20, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, Lucia with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Lawrence ‘Larry’ Kletter

Lawrence “Larry” Kletter, of Denver died November 14, 2012.

No services are planned per Larry’s request.

The Good Samaritan Funeral Home, Denver is serving the Kletter family.

 

Fredrick William Osler

Fredrick William Osler, 82, of Lincolnton died November 10, 2012.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. November 20, 2012 at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.
