With the holidays approaching, Lincoln County residents are taking to the streets in celebration with two annual parades including one in downtown Lincolnton this week and next month’s Cat Square Parade in Vale.
The 2012 Lincolnton Christmas Parade will be 4 p.m. Sunday with line-up from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot of Lincolnton High School.
A variety of vendors are set to fill East Main Street and the surrounding area during the event, offering non-alcoholic beverages and other goodies such as cotton candy, candied apples, funnel cakes and popcorn.
Following the parade, the community is invited to crowd around the court house for the official Christmas tree lighting.
The more lighthearted, Southern tradition of western Lincoln County’s Cat Square Parade will be Dec. 8 with nominations for the event’s “Mayor,” “Little Miss” and “Miss” taking place Nov. 24 at Cat Square Superette in Vale. Residents may vote among the top three nominations in each category on Dec. 1, also at the local convenience store.
