Poetry Lincolnton
Poetry Lincolnton will hold a poetry book sale during poetry night 7 p.m. at the Lincoln Cultural Center, 403 E. Main St. in Lincolnton. All poetry books will be discounted 25 percent. Open mic will follow the event.

“Night of Thanks”

Anthony Grove Baptist Church will host a yard sale starting 6:30 a.m. at The Car Store, 1801 Lincolnton Hwy. in Cherryville.

Craft show

Surviving the Holidays
Pisgah UMC, 2582 Gastonia Hwy. in Lincolnton, will host a “Surviving the Holidays” seminar for those who’ve recently lost a loved one. The event will be 9:30 a.m. to noon. To register, call (704) 732-0538.

Community supper

Poor man’s supper
Bess Chapel’s United Methodist Men’s Group will host a poor man’s supper 5-8 p.m. with pinto beans and all the trimmings at the church, 6073 Flay Rd. in Cherryville.

Harvest Dinner
Emanuel Reformed Church, 329 East Main St. in Lincolnton, will host a Harvest Dinner at 6 p.m. with a silent auction and bingo following at 7 p.m.

Hospice month
In honor of National Hospice Month, Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region will host “Dining Out for Hospice” day at Sports Page Food & Spirits in Denver. The restaurant will donate 10%-15% of their sales to either Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region, Lake Norman, Lincoln County, or Levine & Dickson Hospice House.

Christmas celebration
First Baptist Church, 600 N. Lincoln St. in High Shoals, will host a “Hanging of the Greens” Christmas celebration 6 p.m. with coffee and cake to follow in the fellowship hall.

Fish fry/oyster stew
Crouse UMC, 3311 Crouse School Rd. in Crouse, will host a fish fry and oyster stew 4-7 p.m. in the fellowship hall.
Proceeds will benefit the church building and renovation fund.

Bike Run
Toys for Tots will host a bike run with sign-ups at 11 a.m. and a run at 1:30 p.m. starting at Open Road Cycles in Denver. Police will escort the ride from N.C. 16 to 73 to 27 to 150 back to 16 and ending at Joey’s Fine Food and Spirits in Denver. For more information, call (704) 489-1100. Toys for Tots is also looking for children’s toys (ages 0-14).

Church luncheon
McKendree UMC, 3527 Maiden Hwy. in Lincolnton, will host a chicken pie and baked ham luncheon 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Take-out orders will be available. Donations will be accepted for missions and other church projects.

Crime Fighters’ Night
Charles R. Jonas Library in Lincolnton will host “Crime Fighters’ Night” with McGruff the Crime Dog and Sheriff’s deputies 6:30 p.m. Monday. Parents will receive finger printing kits and learn to create a record that could help identify a missing child. Police officers will also talk about stranger danger and how to stay safe.

Lincoln County Senior Services in Lincolnton will host nutrition meetings on COPD and diabetes 10-11 a.m. at East Lincoln Community Center in Denver, with guest speaker Mary Elder from AVID, and 2-4 p.m. at the Nutrition Office.

Community Blood Center of the Carolinas will host a blood drive 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. tues at CMC-Lincoln, 433 McAlister Rd. in Lincolnton.


Prayer Breakfast
The Lincoln County Family YMCA will host their annual Thanksgiving Prayer Breakfast 6:45 a.m. at the James W. Warren Citizens Center in downtown Lincolnton. A service will follow at 7:30 a.m. Guest speaker will be Andy Calhoun, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Charlotte, and The Green House Jazz Ensemble will be the featured entertainment.

Camp Dogwood retreat

Advocacy Center event
Tickets are currently available for the “Casino Royale Charity Gala” 6-11 p.m. Dec. 15 at Vesuvius Vineyards. Lincoln County Coalition Against Child Abuse & Child Advocacy Center along with First Federal Savings Bank is sponsoring the fundraiser. The event will feature a roaring twenties theme with a Texas hold’em poker tournament with celebrity and professional guest dealers along with black jack, roulette tables and other casino-type attractions, food and entertainment.
