Burgin Wilson Goodson
Burgin Wilson Goodson, age 91, of the Brian Center and formerly of 3681 Goodson Road in Maiden, died on Wednesday, October 31, 2012.
His funeral service will be 3 p.m. today at Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Matthews and Rev. Robert Combs officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:15 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Mr. Goodson was born June 5, 1921 in Lincoln County to the late William Washington and Clara Drum Goodson. He retired from Lowe’s Oil where he worked as a truck driver.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Gladys Schronce Goodson of the home; one son, Kermit Goodson and wife Diane of Maiden; one daughter, Yvonne G. Cromer of Lincolnton; five grandchildren, John A. Cromer III, Linda C. Goodson, Laura D. Cromer, Emily Walmsley, and Amy Hauck; and ten great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church, 1360 Ivey Church Road, Maiden, NC 28650, or to Hospice of Lincoln County, 107 N. Cedar Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of The Brian Center in Lincolnton and Hospice for the care they gave to Mr. Goodson.

Hugh James ‘Buzz’ Peeler
Hugh James “Buzz” Peeler of Gastonia passed away on October 28, 2012.
Buzz was a graduate of Lincolnton High School and Lenoir Rhyne College. He was best known for his pitching heroics in the summer of 1953 when he led Cherryville’s Post 100 baseball team to the Little World Series. Buzz was a member of the NC Legion Baseball Hall of Fame, still holds the record for most pitching wins in a single season, and was a much-beloved teacher and coach.
He is survived by his mother, Sharlene Peeler of Hickory; his sister, Phyllis Little of Taylorsville; and his sister, Michelle Peeler Rosenbalm of Hickory. His son Mike lives in Gastonia and his son Chris lives in Atlanta with Buzz’s granddaughter, Sophie.
A ceremony to celebrate his life will be held at Reeps Grove United Methodist Church in Vale, on Sunday, November 4, 2011 at 3 p.m. Friends and family will gather immediately following the ceremony in the church fellowship hall.
Donations in his honor can be made to the National Kidney Foundation, Charlotte chapter.

Debra Blanton Yoder
BESSEMER CITY — Debra Blanton Yoder, age 59, of Bessemer City, died on Thursday, November 1, 2012.
Her funeral service will be 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at Mt. Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Fain Farmer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state for thirty minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mrs. Yoder was born September 1, 1953 in Cleveland County to the late James Lawrence and Frances Caldwell Blanton. She was a graduate of Kings Mountain High School and UNCC with a BA in Business Administration. Mrs. Yoder was employed by the Gaston County Tax Department as a Business Personal Property Appraiser and former manager at Wallace Computer Services.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Dennis Yoder of the home; two sons, Dr. Kyle Yoder and wife Dr. Virginia Yoder of Salisbury, and Tyler Yoder of Lincolnton; brother, Don Blanton and wife Jo Anne of Asheboro; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dean and Betty Scronce of Crouse; nieces, Misty Hughey and husband Andy of Crouse, and Deanna Scronce of Gastonia; nephew, Andy Blanton and wife Tammy of Asheboro; and great-nephews and great-nieces, Hunter and Carley Hughey, Chris Hicks, Casey and Amy Rodriguez, and Drew Blanton.

Liddie Ware Baker, 95, of Cherryville died October 31, 2012.
