Lincoln County will be represented in both the 1A and 2A classification at Saturday’s North Carolina High School Athletic Association cross-country state championships at Beeson Park in Kernersville.
North Lincoln, the defending 2A boys state champions, East Lincoln and Maiden’s Corbin Boyles will run the first race of the day at 10 a.m.
The North Lincoln girls team hopes to improve on its runner-up finish last year after taking the regional championship last week. Lincolnton’s Jada Blake and West Lincoln’s Kelsey Mosteller will run as individuals based on their finishes at the regional meet after their teams did not qualify for the state championships.
The Lincoln Charter girls team won the 1A regional meet last week just ahead of Lake Norman Charter, last year’s girls state champion. Lincoln Charter’s Sophia Bhalla took the overall crown at the regional meet with a time of 19:48.19, nearly a full minute ahead of the next finisher.
