MORGANTON — The North Lincoln Knights cross-country team should have known what to expect when they traveled to the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 2A West Regional Meet at Freedom High School on Saturday.
The North Lincoln girls took the top spot in the meet for the fourth year in a row. The male Knights took the championship for the second consecutive year.
“They knew going into it that they had a chance to make history for our team and for the county,” North Lincoln coach Matt Reep said. “We told them to run their race, to pass as many people as they could and score as few points as possible.”
The Knights weren’t the only Lincoln County runners making noise at the meet. The East Lincoln men’s team finished third overall. Lincolnton’s Jada Blake, East Lincoln’s Elizabeth Sisk and West Lincoln’s Kelsey Mosteller all qualified for the state championship meet in Kernersville on Saturday based on their individual performances, in spite of their teams not making the cut.
North Lincoln’s Andrew Fea finished first overall in the men’s race with a time of 16:29.3. Maiden’s Corbin Boyles (2) and North Lincoln’s Chris Boyle (3), Ryan Shannon (6) and Lee Johnson (8) rounded out the local top-10 runners in the men’s race.
North Lincoln’s Allie Castro finished first in the girl’s race with a time of 19:44.3. North Lincoln’s Kayla Harrison (5)and Caitlin Potter (8) finished in the top-10.
