Blue Devils cut North Lincoln volleyball season short 3-1 in playoffs

PUMPKIN CENTER — The North Lincoln Lady Knights’ run through the 2A state volleyball playoffs came to an abrupt end with a 3-1 loss to the Maiden Blue Devils on Tuesday.
North Lincoln took the first set with a 26-24 win over the Blue Devils.
Maiden held a lead through nearly the entire set, but the Lady Knights rallied with tips and spikes by sophomore Lyndsi Pound to tie the game at 24-24 and then finished with two unanswered points to take the set.
Maiden won the next three sets, stifling a three-point run by North Lincoln at the end of the second set to take a 25-21 win.
North Lincoln went on a 4-0 run to open the third set, but Maiden took control after an 11-11 tie to take the set 25-19.
Maiden dominated the final set, jetting out to a 10-3 lead before North Lincoln began chipping away.
The Lady Knights scored seven unanswered points after being down 22-12 but Maiden scored its final three points to take the set and advance to the third round of the playoffs.
North Lincoln has four seniors on its roster — Amber Finger, Molly Bolick, Taylor Gram and Payton Bruce.
North Lincoln finishes the season with a 20-5 record.
