Harrison advances to state meet in tennis

North Lincoln senior tennis player Madeline Harrison earned a berth to the state championships in Cary on Friday with two wins at the 2A West Regional at Gardner-Webb University on Friday.
Harrison won her opening match against Shelby’s Macey Wilkins 6-0, 6-1 and took her second-round match against Bunker Hill’s Crystal Thao 6-3, 7-5.
Harrison was defeated by Brevard’s Hunter Hall in the semifinals and lost to Bandys’ Cassidy Shell in the consolation match.
West Lincoln’s Alexis Dellinger lost to Hall in the first round 6-0, 6-0.
North Lincoln’s Holly Vernon lost to Shell 6-0, 6-0 in the first round.
The North Lincoln doubles team of Serah Haley and Maggie Blythe lost to Draughn’s Riley Zopp and Cassandra Monday 6-0, 6-1 in the first round.
The 2A state championship meet begins on Friday at the Cary Tennis Center.
