A western Lincoln County man allegedly stole multiple checks from the Vale restaurant where he worked, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies charged Michael Shane Perryman, 31, of 8555 Old N.C. 18 South in Vale on Tuesday with one felony count each of forgery of a bank note, uttering a forged instrument and obtaining property by false pretenses along with one misdemeanor count of larceny, according to an agency press release.

Perryman is accused of taking seven checks from Norman’s Cafe on N.C. 10. The restaurant’s owner alerted deputies to the missing checks on Sunday.

Two days later, the suspect forged the owner’s name and cashed one of the checks at Kountry Korner Convenience Store in Vale, the release said.

Perryman remains in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $7,000 secured bond.

Detective Matt Burgess is credited with the arrest and assisted by the Adam district patrol officers.

An investigation is ongoing, and more charges may be filed in the case, the Sheriff’s Office said.
