BBQ fundraiser

BBQ benefit
Gainsville Baptist Church along with Thrivent Financial and family and friends of Karen Boston Byers will host a BBQ benefit for Byers 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. (dine in or carry out) at Howards Creek Veterans Center in Lincolnton. Poetry Lincolnton
Poetry Lincolnton will host a special Halloween Poetry Night 7 p.m. at the Lincoln Cultural Center in Lincolnton. The first person to guess the masked guest poet’s identity will win a free book of poetry. (Hint: The guest is a well-known N.C. poet with numerous published books.) Open mic will follow the event. Costumes are encouraged but not required.

Bess Chapel UMC’s women’s group will host a country breakfast 7-10 a.m. at the church, 6073 Flay Rd. in Cherryville.

Fall bazaar
Salem United Methodist Church, 378 N. Pilot Knob Rd. in Denver, will host a fall bazaar 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with crafts, fried apple pies and other baked goods, personalized ornaments and a silent auction.

Blood drive
The American Red Cross will host a blood drive 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Pisgah UMC, 2582 Gastonia Hwy. in Lincolnton.

Fall Fling
The Downtown Lincolnton Fall Fling will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with vendors, face painting, a sidewalk sale, scavenger hunt and more.

Chicken pie/dumplings
St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 4051 King Wilkinson Rd. in Lincolnton, will host a chicken pie/dumpling/stew beef supper 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. with live bluegrass and Gospel music from “Bluegrass Tradition” 5-7 p.m. Pre-order on or before Oct. 19 by calling Jesse or Brandi Summey at (704) 72-7529. Memorial observance
The Korean War Veterans – North Carolina Chapter No. 265 will honor Corp. Jerry Kirt Crump, a Medal of Honor recipient, and the other veterans buried in the Mt. Zion UMC cemetery with a memorial observance with full military honors starting 11 a.m.

Faith and Fun Day

The Denver Art Trail will be on display for the public 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with eight different stops. The Lincoln County Cooperative Extension will host a workshop/info. session 6 p.m. in the first floor kitchen of the James W. Warren Citizens Center in Lincolnton regarding RAFI’s (Rural Advancement Foundation International) annual farming grants. Deadline to apply for a grant is Dec. 5. Cooking Club
Lincoln County 4-H’s monthly “Kids Gourmet Cooking Club” will start 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the James W. Warren Citizens Center, 115 West Main St. in Lincolnton. Bingo fundraiser
The Lincolnton Sunrise Rotary Club will host a bingo fundraiser 6 p.m. at the Lincoln Cultural Center in Lincolnton. The event will feature a “Zombie Walk” for homemade cakes, a silent auction, costume prizes, crafts, games and other food. Childcare will be provided. Lincoln County Coalition Against Child Abuse is seeking sponsorships for their “Casino Royale Charity Gala” Dec. 15 at Vesuvius Vineyards in Denver. The fundraiser event will feature a Texas Hold ‘Em poker tournament, a Black Jack table, door prizes and more.
