Willie Ray Young

Willie Ray Young, 72, of Maiden died October 14, 2012.

Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Goodin-Drum Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Maiden Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Clyde E. Brown

Clyde E. Brown, 92, of Cherryville died October 15, 2012.

Funeral services are incomplete with Carpenter’s Funeral Home, Cherryville.


John R. McGugan

DALLAS, NC — John R. McGugan, age 60, passed away October 13, 2012 at his home.

He was born November 17, 1951 in Chesterfield, S.C., son of the late Archie and Letha Gainey McGugan.

He was a member of Hardin Baptist Church.

Mr. McGugan is survived by his son, John D. McGugan; daughter, Letha McQueen; brothers, Leon and Joseph McGugan; sisters, Pearlene Propse, Sarah Maksion, and Beverly Tutherow; grandchildren, Brittany, Brooke, and Andrew McQueen, Clayton Beal.

A memorial service, officiated by Rev. Charles Ingle, was held 4 p.m. Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel. Interment will be private.

Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.

Conette Byers Doran Heavner

Conette Byers Doran Heavner, age 84, of Carillon Assisted Living, and formerly of 451 Alf Hoover Road in Lincolnton, died on Monday, October 15, 2012.

Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Bethphage Lutheran Church with Pastor Fred Mitschke officiating. Mrs. Heavner will be buried in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Heavner was born January 9, 1928 in Iredell County to the late J.T. Byers and Idella Leonard Byers. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, E. Kohn Heavner; a son, William Edward “Eddie” Doran; brothers, Windell Byers and Alton Byers, and sisters, Loyce Dellinger and Janet Schronce. She retired from Southern Bell.

She is survived by a daughter, Janet Gross and husband Wesley of Lincolnton; sisters, Elaine Houser Hartman and Carolyn Gilbert of Lincolnton, Phyllis Hovis of Chapin, S.C., and Barbara Drumm of Mt. Holly; grandchildren, Matthew Black and wife Kristina of Charlottesville, Va. and Bryan Black and wife Erica of Arlington, Tex.; two stepsons, Charles Heavner and wife Peggy and Bob Heavner and wife Madge, all of Lincolnton; and a stepdaughter, Sarah Hallman of Lincolnton.

Dewey Edward White

IRON STATION — Mr. Dewey Edward White, age 67, of 1002 Shady Retreat Lane in Iron Station died on Sunday, October 14, 2012.

His funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Heavenly View Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Martin and Rev. Derwin Greeson officiating. The body will lie in state for thirty minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. tonight atWarlick Funeral Home.

Mr. White was born July 13, 1945 in Richlands, Va. to the late Thomas and Lila Griffits White.  He was a pastor.

He is survived by his wife, Helen E. White of the home; three sons, Scott White and wife Sherry of Richlands, Va., Thomas Samuel White and Aaron Ray White, and wife Becky, all of Lima, Ohio; one daughter, Pamela Cruey of Richlands, Va.; three step-sons, James Moore of Mooresville, Duane Moore, Advance, Tony Moore of Yadkinville; one step-daughter, Angela Alls of Mooresville; one brother, Andrew White of Tenn.; one sister, Linda Perry of Ohio; and fifteen grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.

Irene Stevens Bentley

Irene Stevens Bentley, age 96, of the Brian Center in Lincolnton, died on Sunday, October 14, 2012.

Her funeral service will be 3 p.m. today at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. David Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. today prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Bentley was born April 28, 1916 in Habersham County, Ga., to the late John and Monie Ann Lowdermilk Stevens. She worked in textiles.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty Ann Beal of Iron Station and Alta Bentley Saine and husband Ken of Vale; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and daughter-in-law, Janice Bentley of Lincolnton.
