Early voting for November’s general election gets under way Thursday at 8 a.m., continuing on through 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3.
Lincoln County Elections Director Bill Beam told the Times-News on Tuesday that, as with any presidential-election year, he expects a large turnout for early voters.
The voter-registration deadline was last Friday.
One-stop voting sites in Lincoln County include the Board of Elections Office on the second floor of the Citizens Center in downtown Lincolnton, the East Lincoln Community Recreation Center on Optimist Club Road in Denver and the North Brook Community Center on N.C. 274 in Vale.
The last day to request an absentee ballot by mail is Tuesday, Oct. 30, with all absentee ballots due by 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 5, one day before the election.
In 2008, more than half of the votes in North Carolina were cast early, and the same is likely this year, according to a recent press release from the Raleigh-based Civitas Institute.
