Construction has been under way on a new apartment complex on Salem Church Road in Lincolnton.
Lincolnton Zoning Administrator Mark Carpenter told the Times-News last week that the project, which will entail a 42-unit, multifamily complex for the elderly and handicapped, was approved by the City Council back in 2010.
Gateway Construction Company, based in Alabama, is conducting the work on the apartment complex.
Carpenter noted that, according to his last conversation with company officials, construction is expected to be completed sometime in the spring of 2013.
This is Gateway’s second project in the area, having also been behind the Bailey Springs Apartments complex off of Wilma Sigmon Road in Lincolnton.
Cindy Hutchinson of Gateway told the Times-News on Friday that she anticipates the apartments to be open to perspective residents, which will include those 55 years of age and older, in May. She additionally noted that the one-story apartments will be either 842 square feet for one bedroom or 1,120 square feet for two.
They will be “exactly the same” as the Bailey Springs units, she added, noting that the affordable-housing apartments will have rent prices ranging from $420 to $583 a month.
