Vandals broke into more than a dozen tents at Rock Springs Campground this week and spray-painted vulgar graffiti on the inside of one of the living quarters, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The owner of a targeted tent contacted deputies about the incident, and officers responded Tuesday afternoon to the eastern Lincoln County site, according to an agency press release.
The culprits kicked in the door of one of the tents, taking a white stool, some fold-up chairs and kitchen knives, the release said.
At least 12 other tents showed evidence they were also broken into, deputies said.
No items were stolen from the additional tents, but paint covered one of the dirt floors, and a vulgarity was spray-painted in black inside another tent, the release said.
No arrests have been made in the incident, but deputies are asking the public to contact the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at (704) 732-9050 or Crime Stoppers at (704) 736-8909 with any details they may have in the case.
Tips may remain anonymous, and any tip leading to an arrest may result in a reward of up to $1,000.
An investigation is ongoing.
