Herman A. Nixon
Mr. Herman A. Nixon, age 71, of 1618 St. James Church Road, Denver entered eternal rest on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center-Lincoln, Lincolnton.
He was born on April 7, 1941 in Lincoln County the third of four children to the late McLaurin Nixon and Ella Mae Foster Nixon.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his foster sister, Joyce Camps, and his foster son, Sidney Verbal.
Herman was a lifelong member of St. James United Methodist Church. He served faithfully as a choir member, chairperson of the finance committee, and trustee. He attended public schools in Lincoln County and was Valedictorian of Newbold High School, class of 1959.
He joined the United States Air Force and served from 1959 until 1963. He was employed at General Electric for 33 years and retired as a supervisor in 1996. Herman was employed at Emanuel Lutheran Church for 37 years as a sexton. Herman also served diligently as a treasurer for Tucker’s Grove Campground.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
Survivors are his loving wife of 47 years, Clara Tarlton Nixon of Denver: three children, Zanja Diew of London, UK, Rev. Brian (Kimberley) Nixon of Lewes, Del., and Jennifer (Henry) Sekawungu of Norristown, Pa.; two brothers, Waddell (Yvonne) Nixon of Irvington, N.J., Jerry (Tarbie) Nixon of Denver; one sister, Maxine (Charles) Whitener of Greenville; six grandchildren, Maurice Wiggins and Jasmine Wiggins of Woodbridge, Va., Ashley Wiggins of Fort Wayne, Ind., Amber Nixon, Brandon Nixon, and Christa Nixon of Lewes, Del.; three great grandchildren; seven aunts and a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Herman loved to sing and work in his garden.

Funeral services are Friday, September 21, 2012 at 2 p.m. at St. James United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

VALE — Mr. Richard Campa, age 47, of 3692 Hog Hill Road in Vale, died on Sunday, September 16, 2012.
The family received friends from 6 p.m. until 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Salem Baptist Church. A memorial service followed at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Andy Royals officiated.
Mr. Campa was born March 9, 1965 in Punta Gorda, Fla. to Juan and Ruby Artis Campa. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mandy Campa and a brother, Ruddy Campa.
He is survived by a daughter, Amberly Campa of the home; one son, Daniel Campa of the home; his parents, Juan and Ruby Campa of Vale; three brothers, Johnny Campa and Martin Campa, both of Vale, and Antonio Campa of Gastonia; and three sisters, Angie Gates of Lincolnton, Kathy Kelley of Vale, and Andrea Beachum of Kings Mountain.

David Dwayne Goodson
David Dwayne Goodson, age 60, of Maiden passed away Monday, September 17, 2012.
Born September 12, 1952 in Catawba County, he was the son of Glenn Goodson and the late Betty Setzer Storey.
David was a member of Living Word Church in Maiden and was a loving father and grandfather.
Survivors include father, Glenn Goodson of Maiden; mother and grandmother of his children and grandchildren, Sheila Goodson of Maiden; two sons, Shane and Casey Goodson of Maiden, Marcus and Kim Goodson of Newton; two daughters, Bridget and Todd Thompson of Maiden, Natalie and Scott Strait of Maiden; two grandsons, Easton and Kane; four granddaughters, Lacie, Bailee, Jessie Kate and Camdyn; one brother, Kenny Goodson of Maiden; one sister, Glenda Hartsoe of Maiden; fiancee’ Betty Ann Kleinhans of Statesville.
The funeral service will be held Friday, September 21, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Living Word Church in Maiden with Pastor Rick Haug officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
Burial will follow at Maiden City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday, September 20, 2012 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Living Word Church in Maiden.
