Gladys Margaret Kiser Rumfelt

Mrs. Gladys Margaret Kiser Rumfelt, age 96, of 2372 Country Club Road in Lincolnton, died on Sunday, September 16, 2012.

Her funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Pisgah United Methodist Church with Rev. Judy Eurey and Rev. Charles Ingle officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday at the church prior to the service.

Mrs. Rumfelt was born August 30, 1916 in Gaston County to the late John Phillip and Daisy Rhyne Kiser.  Mrs. Rumfelt was retired from textiles.

Survivors include her husband, Carl J. Rumfelt of the home; one son, Randy J. Rumfelt and wife Elizabeth of Holden Beach; two grandchildren, Wesley Rumfelt and wife Cathy of Cumming, Ga. and William Rumfelt of Atlanta, Ga.; one great grandson, Jack Rumfelt of Cumming, Ga.

Memorials may be made to Pisgah United Methodist Church, 2582 Gastonia Highway, Lincolnton NC 28092.

Christine ‘Lucille’ Huff Black

Mrs. Christine “Lucille” Huff Black, age 74, of 940 Old Lincolnton Crouse Road, Crouse passed away on September 14, 2012 at home.

Services will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Black was a native of Pickens, S.C. born on November 27, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Clarence and Dora Owens Huff. Mrs. Black was preceded in death by one son, Wayne Schronce, two brothers Thomas Huff and Phil Huff; one sister, Cora Bell Stamey. She was retired from Vermont American.

Survivors include three sons, Eddie Schronce, Donald Steve Schronce, and Johnny Schronce all of Lincolnton; one sister, Carolyn Daves of Kings Mountain; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Helen Saine Turner     

Mrs. Helen Saine Turner, age 92, of Carolina Care in Cherryville and formerly of Lincolnton died Sunday, September 16, 2012.

Her funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Boger City United Methodist Church with Rev. Allan Van Meter and Rev. Joe Ervin officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mrs. Turner was born January 3, 1920 in Lincoln County and was the daughter of the late Marvin Forest and Mary Lutz Sain. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ernest R. Turner and two brothers, T.E. Sain and George Sain. Mrs. Turner was retired from the dress shop, Alda Crowe in Lincolnton. She was a life long member of Boger City United Methodist Church.

She is survived by three sons, Bob Turner and wife, Melissa of Glade Spring, Va., Ronald Turner and wife, Sarah of Zebulon, and Lawrence David Turner and wife, Kay of Cherryville; one daughter, Carolyn Summer and husband, Larry of Cherryville; one sister, Taltha Scronce of Vale; fifteen grandchildren, Tanya Bridges and husband Mike, Darcia Munro and husband David, Casey Bledsoe and wife Tori, Ben Bledsoe and wife Judith, Ginger Carroll, Ronda Turner, Ronnie Turner and wife Nancy, Scott Turner and wife Inga, Julie Harrell and husband Herb, Tom Summer and wife Sharon, Cindy Summer, Cathy Smiley and husband Jeff, David Turner and wife Amy, Elizabeth Jagielski and husband Jerry, Millicent Heavner and husband Scotty; twenty-three great grandchildren and one soon to be arriving great-great grandchild.

Carl Francis Grice

STANLEY — Carl Francis Grice, 87, of 1540 South Highway 16, died Wednesday, September 12, 2012.

He was born in Lincoln County, son of the late John William and Nancy McIntosh Grice. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Frances Grice. He was a US Army Veteran and a member of Hills Chapel United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Cora McIntosh Grice; one son Fred William Grice and wife Kathy of High Point; one sister Pauline Grice Wilson of Belmont; two grandchildren, Lauren Grice Villani and husband Robert and their three sons, Will, Alex, and Luke of York, Pa. and Ryan Walker Grice and his two children, Uriah and Olivia of Lincoln, Calif.

The family would like to offer special thanks to caregivers, Betty Wilke, Rebecca Knetter, Susan McGinnis, Jessica Childers, Kelli Hogue and Trisha Harris. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Grice was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Hills Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Franklin Grice, Rev. Michael Leatherwood, and Dr. Val Rosenquist officiating. Burial followed with military honors in the church cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

David McElwaine

David McElwaine, 86, of Temple, Tex. died September 16, 2012.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Ebony & White’s Funeral Service.


Ruth Wyont Mauney

Ruth Wyont Mauney, 88, of Stanley, formerly of Bessemer City died September 15, 2012.

A memorial service will be held today at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Stanley Total Living Center. Burial will be private at City Memorial Cemetery, Cherryville. The family will receive friends after the memorial service.

David Carl Purcelle

David Carl Purcelle, 65, of Newton died September 14, 2012.

A memorial service will be held September 23, 2012 at 3 p.m. at Mt. Grove Baptist Church, Hickory. The family will receive friends September 23, 2012 from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at the church, prior to the service.
