Suzanne Beam Goins, 64, of Cherryville died September 7, 2012.

Funeral services were held September 9, 2012 at First Baptist Church at 4 p.m. with burial in City Memorial Cemetery. The family received friends prior to the service from 2 p.m. until 3:45 p.m.

Bruce David Peer

Bruce David Peer, 65, of Denver died September 6, 2012.

Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Salem United Methodist Church. The family received friends one hour prior to the service. Burial with full military honors will be held at 2 p.m. today at Salisbury National Cemetery.

Kermit William Poovey

Mr. Kermit William Poovey, age 76, of 1433 Poovey Hill Lane in Lincolnton, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer at home surrounded by his family.

Services will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mr. Poovey was born on May 13, 1936 in Lincoln County to the late Robert Hoyle Poovey and Nettie Thornburg Poovey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Linda McGinnis Poovey; three brothers, Leroy “Shadow” Poovey, Leonard Poovey and Grady Poovey; two sisters, Edna P. Self and Mazelle P. Cook. He was employed by Tillman’s Music before starting his own business Poovey TV Service, which he owned and operated for 33years. He was also a skilled musician who performed with many country and gospel music bands.

He is survived by his wife Debbie Poovey of the home; three daughters, Dinah P. Ward and husband Steve of Huntersville, Roxanna P. Cochrane and husband John of Boiling Springs, Laura P. Metz and husband Frank of Lincolnton; and son, Billy Poovey and wife Shelia of Lincolnton; one sister, Myrtle Reep of Iron Station; five grandchildren, Thomas Brewer and wife Stacey, Drew and Abigail Cochrane, Michael and Madi Metz; step-children, Rob Hudspeth of Lincolnton, Regina Gray and husband Benjamin of Dallas, Rebeckah Dean and husband Johnny of S.C., Aaron Edwards and wife Cindy of Lincolnton; eleven step-grandchildren, Robbie Hudspeth, Tya Sherrill, Dayton Gray, Brittany Gray, Ashleigh Wallace, Kimberlee Arrowood, Ian Marr, Dexter and Korbin Dean, Haden and Hunter Edwards.

Amelia Dianne Hager Alexander

Amelia Dianne Hager Alexander, 65, of Stanley passed away on September 6, 2012 at home surrounded by her family.

She leaves to cherish her memory, husband of 48 years, Gary W. Alexander; sons, Mark Alexander and wife Mary of Oxford, Timmy Alexander and wife Heather of Stanley; and daughter, Trina Gantt and husband Jimmy Gantt of Stanley; five grandchildren, Drew and Lauren Gantt, Dayton and Madison Alexander and Gunner Alexander.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

Iris Lucile Carpenter Carpenter

BESSEMER CITY — Iris Lucile Carpenter Carpenter, 79, of 5015 Dallas Cherryville Highway, died September 7, 2012 at her residence.

Mrs. Carpenter was born in Gaston Co. on March 12, 1933, a daughter of the late L. S. and Lucile Pasour Carpenter. She was a longtime and devoted member of Bethel Lutheran Church where she was the organist and Sunday School teacher for over 50 years, youth director, served faithfully on Church Council, and was the treasurer for the cemetery committee.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, John B. Carpenter; son and daughter in law John B. Carpenter Jr. and wife Kelly of Stanley; two granddaughters, Hannah and Leah Carpenter; sister, Prue Carpenter of Lincolnton and a brother, Frederick Carpenter of Lincolnton; and a special niece and nephew Marcella Cox and Matthew of Raleigh and great niece Mareena Cox.

Funeral services will be held today at Bethel Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. Steven King officiating with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family received friends Sunday at Carpenter’s Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and other times at the home.

Leona Pearl Mauney Yoder Wise

CROUSE — Mrs. Leona Pearl Mauney Yoder Wise, age 89, of 5663 Crouse Road in Crouse and formerly of Florida City, Fla., died on Saturday, September 8, 2012.

Her funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at Reepsville Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Hull officiating. Her body will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday atWarlick Funeral Home.

Mrs. Wise was born June 7, 1923 in Gaston County to the late Fredrick Earl and Ocie Ellen Clark Mauney. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl H. “Hal” Wise; one brother, Floyd Mauney; and one sister, Iola Barrett. Mrs. Wise was a retired pharmacy clerk.

Survivors include, one son, Dennis Yoder and wife Debbie of Bessemer City; one daughter, Betty Scronce and husband Dean of Crouse; four grandchildren, DeAnna Scronce of Gastonia, Misty Hughey and husband Andy of Crouse, Kyle Yoder and wife Virginia of Salisbury and Tyler Yoder of Lincolnton; two great grandchildren, Hunter Hughey and Carley Hughey; special niece, Joyce Thomas of Lincolnton.

Carol Jean Grotz

Carol Jean Grotz, age 71, of 131 Hawksbill Drive in Lincolnton, died on Friday, September 7, 2012.

No services are planned at this time.

Ms. Grotz was born December 10, 1940 in Buffalo, N.Y. to the late Edward and Ruth Cummer Grotz.  She worked as a CNA.

She is survived by two sons, Edward Eckerson and wife Sherry of Lincolnton, and Gary Eckerson and significant other Billy Duncan of Palm Beach, Fla.; one sister, Diane Moss of Palm Bay, Fla.; five grandchildren, Eddie Eckerson, Tia Avery, Elissa Kouray, Billy Eckerson, and Erick Eckerson; nine great-grandchildren; as well as Dorothy Reynolds, mother of her daughter-in-law.
