Annual race set for Saturday

LTN Staff Reports

Before chomping down on a freshly made, crunchy candied apple and celebrating the start of the fall season with thousands of other local citizens this weekend at Lincoln County’s 40th Annual Apple Festival, the community is invited to lace up their running shoes for a special 5K run and one-mile Fun Run/Walk on Saturday at Lincolnton High School.

The Lincolnton Rotary Club, in connection with The Drug Store, is sponsoring the 25th annual race as part of the festival’s daily activities.

Men and women of all ages are encouraged to participate in the 3.1 mile run, including children who wish to showcase their athletic talent.

Awards will be given to the top male and female in both races, as well as medals for the top three 5K runners in each age group. All Fun Run/Walk entrants will receive participation ribbons.

Individuals may register by 7:40 a.m. the day of the race by visiting racingtoes.com or mailing checks in advance to the following address: Lincolnton Rotary Club, P.O. Box 622, Lincolnton, N.C., 28093.

For more information, contact Jody Rhyne at (704) 472-7263. Shower facilities will be available to runners.

Race events commence 8 a.m. on Saturday.
