A swimming advisory has been issued by the Lincoln County Health Department as of 2:30 p.m. Friday due to a sewer spill in the southeastern part of the county. The affected area includes the Lake Norman main channel and shoreline near Waterford Drive off of Hager’s Ferry Road at the King’s Cove Subdivision.
The spill is the result of a contractor’s truck hitting the county’s pressurized sewer line, officials said.
Water samples are being collected by the county’s Public Works Department to determine the level of potential bacterial infection into Lake Norman.
Residents and lake users are advised not to swim or otherwise have bodily contact in the area until further notice.
