DENVER — Dorothy Grayson Lee, 90, died Thursday, August 23, 2012, at Carolinas Medical Center-Lincoln.
A service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, August 25, 2012, in the Founders Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia with Pastor Josh Glandon officiating. Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park in Gastonia.
The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1 p.m. Saturday at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia.
Dorothy was born November 27, 1921 in Clover, S.C. She was the daughter of the late Columbus Clinton “Lum” Grayson and Bessie Perry Grayson.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Barlowe Stuart Lee of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Jean Lee of Gastonia; daughter and son-in-law, Jeri Ann and Sandy Hudson of Maiden; grandchildren, Jenifer Frye and husband Toby of Gastonia, Trey Brown and wife Aaron of Lexington, Joseph Hudson of Maiden; great grandchildren, Lauren Frye, Collin Frye, Claudia Frye, Alivia Brown and sister, Madge Dismuke of Gastonia.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by sisters, Mozelle Carson, Jean Michaels and brother, Perry Grayson.

Vida Francis Harris
Vida Francis Harris, 91, of Lincolnton and Raleigh, died Wednesday, August 22, 2012. A devoted church member, active businesswoman, loving mother and grandmother, Vida was blessed by her family’s presence to her final hours.
Services will be held at Warlick Funeral Home Chapel in Lincolnton on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at 3 p.m. Family members will greet friends from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton.
Mrs. Harris was born August 4, 1921, to William Bartell Francis and Olivia Brittle Francis in Conway. She grew up as a member of Conway Baptist Church, and was graduated from Salisbury Business College in Kannapolis. During World War II, she met and married her life-long partner Kemp Harris, of Catawba County, who preceded her in death in 1993. Vida and Kemp were active members of Macedonia, Southside, Westport and First Baptist Churches of Lincoln County, and owned and operated Harris City Paint Store in Lincolnton from 1949 – 1985.
Mrs. Harris is survived by a daughter, Olivia Harris Fleming and her husband George of Raleigh; two grandchildren, Christianna Fleming Campbell and husband John of Raleigh, and John Alexander Fleming and wife Brooke of Denver, Colo.; three great-grandchildren, Caroline Leigh and Carter Thomas Campbell of Raleigh and Marin Reese Fleming of Denver; one sister, Verdie Francis Chitty of Ahoskie; two nephews, Glenn Chitty and Ronnie Francis; and one niece, Cathy Sherman, on the Francis family side; a sister-in-law, Daphine Harris, and numerous nephews and nieces on the Harris side. A special “son” and business colleague of the Harrises, Robert Ledford, preceded her in death.
In late September, a celebration of life service will be held in Raleigh.

Gloria Diane McNeely Brooks, age 66, of 3659 Gastonia Highway in Lincolnton, died on Tuesday, August 21, 2012.
Her funeral service will be 3 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of High Shoals with Rev. Doug McClain and Rev. Charles Ingle officiating. Burial will follow in the Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. today prior to the service at the church.
Mrs. Brooks was born December 10, 1945 in Cleveland County to Elizabeth White McNeely Philbeck and the late Bryson McNeely. She worked as a seamstress.
She is survived by her husband, Johnny Brooks of the home; three sons, Johnny Brooks Jr. and wife Lesa and Jimmy Brooks, all of Lincolnton, and Jeffrey Brooks and wife Cindy of Maiden; four sisters, Gail Cabiness of Lincolnton, Janet Self and Gilda Towery, both of Cleveland County, and Rita Daves of Cherryville; eight grandchildren, Randy Brooks, Matthew Brooks, Bryson Brooks, Austin Brooks, Craig Perry, Jeffrey Brooks, Justin Brooks, Melissa Brooks; two great-grandchildren, Mady Brooks and Landen Brooks; and her mother, Elizabeth McNeely Philbeck of Cleveland County.

Margaret Wilson Graham
DENVER — Margaret Wilson Graham, age 94, died Tuesday, August 21, 2012. Margaret was born July 8, 1918 in Lincoln County. She was the daughter of Cordia and Robert Graham. She was the last of eight children in her family. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Roberta Wilson, Mary Graham and Virginia McKee, brothers, James, Ben, Gilbert and William Graham.
Margaret is survived by four nephews, John C. Wilson, Graham Wilson of Denver, Dr. Jim Graham of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Robert Graham of Charlotte; two nieces, Bettie Faulk of Charlotte, and Shirley Christenbury of Anderson, S.C. She also leaves 12 great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her many dear friends and acquaintances who dearly cherished her friendship.
Margaret was a secretary for more than 40 years with both Central Motor Lines and Mack Trucks, retiring at the age of 75. She had been a member of Unity Presbyterian Church in Denver for 83 years. She had the honor of being the first female Elder in Unity Presbyterian Church in over 200 years, as well as the first female Elder in the Presbyterian Church in North Carolina.
Margaret had lived in the Graham home place for her 94 years. It was built over 100 years ago and was cherished by her. She was a direct descendent of General Joseph Graham who rests in Machpelah Church cemetery along with his family. The Graham family history in Lincoln and Mecklenburg counties dates back to the 1700’s.
Funeral services for Margaret will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2012 in theWarlick Funeral HomeChapel in Lincolnton with Rev. Dr. Paul Kercher and Rev. Jim Loftis officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. The committal will take place at 3:30 p.m. in the Unity Presbyterian Church cemetery, Graham family plot, with Rev. Carol Clark officiating. A reception will immediately follow the committal in the Fellowship Hall of Unity Presbyterian Church.

William ‘Bill’ Bradford Broadway Jr.
CHERRYVILLE — William “Bill” Bradford Broadway Jr., age 64, of 805 Settlers Drive, died Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at his son’s residence.
Bill was born on December 27, 1947 in Lincoln County, the son of the late William Bradford Broadway Sr. and Beulah Mae Ingle Broadway. He was a retired truck driver, from CBT, Inc., Cherryville, and was a member of Corner Stone Baptist Church, Lincolnton. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janie Sue Scism Broadway and a brother, Benny Michael Broadway.
Survivors include, son, Jeffery B. Broadway, of Cherryville; daughter and son-in-law, Clarissa and Billy Carpenter of the home; brothers and sisters-in-law, Danny and Gail Broadway, of Lincolnton, Bobby and Ann Marie Broadway of Gastonia; grandchildren, Emily Layne Broadway, Maegan Alexis Carpenter-Whiddon, and Savanna Brooke Carpenter; great grandson, Brody Lye Carpenter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 25, 2012 in Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter’s Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Reese officiating.
