Lincolnton-based Austin Orthodontics broke ground Thursday morning on its new Denver location during a ceremony jointly hosted by the Lincoln Economic Development Association and the Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce.
Owner Dr. Steven Austin opened his office on South Laurel Street in Lincolnton in 1999 and currently operates a satellite practice in Denver, not far from the new office, which will be located at 2861 N. N.C. 16.
The new practice will be part of a planned 10,000-square-foot facility housing office suites, said Austin, who owns the property. His practice will take up about 4,000 square feet, with the remainder of the facility to be divided up and leased.
“It was time; I reached my max in Lincolnton as far as capacity,” he told the Times-News, also noting that many of his patients are from Catawba County and the Lake Norman area.
He has already added two staff members and plans to split his time between Lincolnton and Denver. Austin, who resides in Lincolnton and intends to keep it his “home base,” also has a nephew who’s currently in dental school who he hopes may eventually join him.
Construction on the new facility is expected to be completed by February 2013.
Austin said he plans for the practice to be an “all digital office” and to “house all the highest technology.”
Rhonda Hunter of LEDA, which often hosts groundbreaking ceremonies for larger industries, told the Times-News that the organization also hopes to offer its support to smaller businesses. Through its “economic gardening” program, LEDA plans to help already established local small businesses, like Austin Orthodontics, that are looking to grow.
Hunter noted that the next big sector of growth will likely be from many of those smaller businesses looking to expand or hire additional employees.
“They make a difference in a small community,” she added.
