Catawba County deputies are on the hunt for a Conover man accused of using a pistol to assault a former girlfriend, then trying to shoot her while the two were at a party over the weekend.
The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office sent out an urgent notice to area news outlets on Thursday asking for the public’s help in locating the suspect, Aichon See, 24, whose last known address was 1966 Crown Drive in Conover, an agency press release said.
Deputies warned the community See is potentially “armed and dangerous” and is wanted on charges of attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
See pulled a gun on his former girlfriend, 22-year-old Netwon-resident Samantha Estep, around 2 a.m. Sunday, striking her in the head with the weapon, knocking her to the ground, Sheriff Coy Reid told the Times-News Thursday afternoon.
The suspect proceeded to kick the woman multiple times and fired two rounds that missed her, Reid said. Shortly after, the gun misfired when See pointed it at Estep’s face, giving her time to flee the scene.
“Witnesses said the gun either misfired or ran out of ammo,” Reid said.
While Reid couldn’t pinpoint whether or not See had a history of violent crime, he did note the suspect is no stranger to local law enforcement.
“He’s been in our jail numerous times,” Reid said.
The victim has since been treated and released from an area hospital.
Anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office at (828) 464-3112.
Sgt. David Eckard is heading an ongoing investigation.
