An eastern Lincoln County dentist has been charged by criminal investigators with the North Carolina Department of Insurance with deducting money from employees’ paychecks last year for health insurance coverage while simultaneously failing to pay the required premiums.
Denver dentist, Daniel Owen Carson, 54, of 7777 Rock Meadows Trail Court, missed three months’ worth of payments on his employees’ insurance premiums, according to an agency press release.
Carson’s alleged actions and lack of payment from June through September 2011, unexpectedly stripped Lake Norman Dental Center employees of their insurance coverage, the release said.
Although Carson stopped making the premium payments, he continued to deduct money from employees’ paychecks, investigators said.
The DOI charged Carson on Monday with one count each of obtaining property by false pretenses and failure to pay group insurance premiums.
He’s since been released from the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center on a $4,000 unsecured bond.
