Ruby Shull Ballard

Mrs. Ruby Shull Ballard, age 85, of 2889 Highland Drive Lincolnton passed away on Thursday June 28, 2012.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday July 1, 2012 at Friendly Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service.

Mrs. Ballard was a native of Lincoln County born on February 23, 1927. She was the daughter of the late George and Hessie Williams Shull. Mrs. Ballard was preceded in death by her husband Harold McDowell Ballard, and one sister Ruth Lambert. Mrs. Ballard worked in the textile industry before retiring.

Survivors include, one daughter, Rebecca Gibson and husband Stephen of Lincolnton; one grandson, Shawn Eugene Ballard and wife April; one great granddaughter, Alicia Ballard; one brother, Bobby Ray Shull and wife Jean of Maiden; three sisters, Dot Dellinger and husband Boyd of Denver, Peggy Ledford of Denver and Jo Ann Kelly and husband Larry of Denver.

Miles Alton Moss

Miles Alton Moss, has gone to be with our Heavenly father on June 26, 2012.

Miles was born on July 16, 1928, in Salem, S.C. He was the son of the late Miles Alec and Dott Moss. He is preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Miles is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dot Moss of Lincolnton. In addition he is survived by his children, Sharon Lasker and husband Chuck of Kauai, Hawaii, Pam Dellinger and husband Kenny of Stanley, Rickey Moss and wife Dawn of Stanley, Rose Ellen Sain and husband Todd of Lincolnton, April Warren and husband Steve of Lincolnton and Spencer Moss of Lincolnton. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Miles served in the military and was a member of the Masonic, Blue Ridge Lodge No. 92, A.F.M. He was retired from Duke Energy and worked part-time for Buddy Stasney’s Buick GMC Truck, in Lincolnton.

The family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude to Jennifer Goodlett, Betty Spradley, and the staff at Lincoln Family Practice.

The family will be receiving friends at Warlick Funeral Home Saturday, June 30, 2012 from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. Service to follow in the chapel with Reverend Mike Devine officiating and a Masonic burial service will be performed by Temple Lodge No. 676 of Charlotte, at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Highway 150, Lincolnton.

Other times of visitation will be at the home of Rose Ellen and Todd Sain, 103 Labans Lane, Lincolnton.

Paul Junior Leatherman

Mr. Paul Junior Leatherman, age 82, of 3108 Philadelphia Church Road in Lincolnton, went to be with his Savior on Tuesday, June 26, 2012.

His funeral service will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Hardin Community Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Hovis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. tonight at Warlick Funeral  Home.

Mr. Leatherman was born August 2, 1929 in Lincoln County to the late Fred and Lena Stallings Leatherman. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Rosetta Benoy Leatherman. He worked in textiles.

He is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Lail and husband Rick of New Bern; a brother, Steve Leatherman of Lincolnton; four grandchildren, Jennifer Lail Mitchell and husband Billy, Joseph Paul Lail, Timothy Eric Lail and wife Brandy, and Megan Lail Green and husband Neil; and nine great-grandchildren, Logan, Connor, Riley Grace, Alyssa, Blake, Cody, Nick, Emma Rose, and Brody.

Betty Pope Hartley

Betty Pope Hartley, age 81, of Hudson, died Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Brian Center Health and Retirement/Lincolnton. She was born July 9, 1930 in Caldwell County to the late Robey Suel and Florence Cannon Pope. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Earl Hartley; sisters, Faye Hice and Scotty Sue Pope; and brother, Paul Pope.

Mrs. Hartley was a homemaker and a member of Center Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons, Rickey Hartley of Taylorsville, Eric Hartley and William Hartley and Greg Hartley, all of Hudson; daughters, Mrs. Brenda Hamby and husband Ronnie of Collettsville and Mrs. Lisa Crowe and husband Rodney of Lincolnton; brothers, Bob Pope of Lenoir and Markcus Pope of Claremont; sisters, Jean Eckerd, Kay Settlemyre and Becky Hollar, all of Granite Falls; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Poovey’s Chapel Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Nicky Waters.

Phillip Clyde Price

Phillip Clyde Price, 72, of Iron Station went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 25, 2012 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House.

A memorial service will be held at Faith Baptist Church, Iron Station, Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 4 p.m. Following services the family will receive friends.

Mr. Price was born on April 22, 1940 in Charlotte to the late Ezra C. Price and Clydie M. Yarborough. He is survived by his wife, Joan M Price; sons, Rev. J.R. (Price) Davis and wife Kathy, Donnie Soles, Scott Price, Michael Price and wife Lora; daughter, Kelly Price; step daughter, Angela Stills and husband Chris; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Tammy Lynn Calloway Cook

Tammy Lynn Calloway Cook, 41, of Covington, Va. died June 24, 2012.

She was born January 25, 1971 in Lincolnton to Barbara Martin Winstead and the late Junior Calloway.

She previously worked as a Med Tech at a group home in Lincolnton.

She is survived by three sons, Mark Twain Cook of Casar, Caleb Scott Ball, and Tyler Shane Ball, of Lincolnton; mother, Barbara Martin Winstead; two sisters, Elizabeth Ann Sparks, of Cherryville, and Tonya Calloway of Shelby; one brother, Chad Calloway of Lincolnton; one granddaughter, Madison Ann Cook; and significant other, Tony Scott Ball, of Covington, Va.

A private service will be held at Massapoag Baptist Church, Lincolnton from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday, June 29, 2012.

Calvin Coolidge Hoyle, 88, of Lincolnton died June 27, 2012.

Graveside services will be held June 30, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the Hoyle family cemetery. The family will receive friends after the services at the home.

Lois Ann Bean Kaylor, 69, of Maiden died June 27, 2012.

The funeral service will be held June 30, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Maiden. Burial will follow at Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church Cemetery, Maiden. The family will receive friends, prior to the service, from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Maiden.

Helen Ruth Izard Ross, 70, of Lincolnton died June 26, 2012.

A funeral service will be held June 30, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Hinton Memorial United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.

Frances Louise Gilbert Hall Stapleton, 72, of Conover died June 27, 2012.

A graveside service will be held on June 30, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Conover City Cemetery. The family will receive friends June 30, 2012 from 9 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. at Burke Mortuary, Newton prior to the graveside service.
