A cement truck overturned in Lincolnton Tuesday afternoon, sending the driver to a Gaston County hospital.

According to Trooper Kevin Hall with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Emergency Medical Services rushed the driver of the truck, Charles Meeks, 56, of Dallas, to Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia for injuries sustained in the wreck.

Meeks was traveling south down South Grove Street Extension in Lincolnton, just past Betty G. Ross Park, when his vehicle traveled off the right side of the road around noon, Hall said.

The driver overcorrected, lost control of the vehicle and overturned on the right side of the roadway, according to troopers, who do not believe speed contributed to the incident.

Crews from Lincolnton Fire Department helped to extract Meeks from the truck. He was in stable condition and appeared to have non-life-threatening injuries following the incident, Hall said.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies also responded to the scene.
