A Lincolnton man was allegedly under the influence of a narcotic when he crashed his moped Wednesday afternoon in an area on the southwestern end of the county.
Trooper Kyle Adkins with the North Carolina Highway Patrol told the Times-News Thursday morning that Timothy Allen, 50, drove too fast around a curb, causing his moped to overturn. Adkins said Allen was traveling close to 50 mph in a 45 mph zone.
The incident occurred just before 3 p.m. on N.C. 182 at Pleasant Grove Church Road in the Howards Creek area.
While Allen sustained minor injuries in the wreck, troopers said Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to Carolinas Medical Center-Lincoln for treatment for “road rash.”
Troopers accused Allen of being under the influence of Xanax at the time of crash and charged him with DWI.
