Graystone Eye of Lincolnton is expected to begin treating patients Monday at its new East Main Street facility, on which began construction last August.
Relocating to the new 7,500-square-foot building from Graystone’s former Donita Drive office will take place over the weekend. The project had been in the making for about three years.
“The new building is designed totally around the proper flow of the patient to obtain cutting-edge services in a beautiful, inviting environment,” Sheree Watson, CEO of Graystone Eye, told the Times-News this week.
Improved visibility and accessibility were both significant contributing factors to the decision to construct an office at 2311 E. Main St., Watson said.
“We constructed the new facility due to the need to more centrally locate geographically for our patient population and also because our previous facility had aged and was not to our standard for state-of-the-art ophthalmic care,” she additionally noted.
Specifically, she believes the new location will be more convenient for those patients coming from out of town or from the eastern parts of the county, such as Denver. And, being at a signalized intersection will make it safer for older patients worried about traffic, she said.
The floor plan was designed by a Michigan-based, medical-specialty architectural firm with a division that designs only ophthalmic offices and surgery centers. The same group designed Graystone’s Hickory office and ambulatory surgery center, which Watson noted has received national attention for its functionality and aesthetics.
The new, full-service ophthalmology office is also designed to allow two physicians to see patients simultaneously, an improvement over the previous location.
Initially, there will be no added staff positions, but Watson said she anticipates growth and plans to get to a point where they will hire a new physician.
“We are extremely excited to offer every aspect of ophthalmic care to our Lincolnton and surrounding area patients in this beautiful new facility,” Watson said.
Graystone Eye was formed in 1969 and has been in Lincolnton for 25 years. The company currently has offices in Hickory, Lincolnton, Lenoir, Boone and Linville, with 14 physicians and about 160 employees in total.
