Canning classes
The N.C. Cooperative Extension will host a variety of canning classes at the James Warren Citizens Center this summer at the following times: pickles, 6 p.m. Monday; pressure canning & salsa making, 10 a.m. Tuesday; peach jam, 6 p.m. June 18; pickles, 10 a.m. July 10. Class registration
Registration and advising for fall classes for returning students to Gaston College starts Tuesday and continues through June 21. Registration for all students will be July 9– 25. Fall semester will start Aug. 20. For more information, visit gaston.edu.

NARFE

Reading program
Kick-off for the Lincoln County Public Library’s 2012 Summer Reading Programs, “Dream Big – Read!” and “Own the Night,” will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the James Warren Citizens Center in downtown Lincolnton. The Opening Night Family Program will feature sign-ups, food, music, games and other entertainment.

LHS basketball camp
Registration is now open for a boys and girls basketball camp (grades 2-8). Camp hours will be 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday through Friday at the Lincolnton High School gym. Sign-ups will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Monday-Friday at the Lentz Recreation Center at Betty G. Ross Park in Lincolnton. For more information, call (704) 735-2671.

Sons of Confederate

The Lincoln County Emergency Planning Commission (LEPC) will meet 9:30-11:30 a.m. Friday in the Board of Commissioners Room on the 3rd floor of the James Warren Citizens Center in downtown Lincolnton.

Art exhibition
The Lincoln Cultural Center will host the exhibition “Mr. Lem: The Life and Art of Lemuel Moore Nolen” Friday. The project is a collaboration of the Crouse Community History and Photo Project and the Lincoln County Historical Association.

Men’s softball
L-Town Extreme Fastpitch 10 and under softball team will host a men’s open softball tournament 6 p.m. Friday at Lincolnton Optimist Park on Startown Rd. in Lincolnton. Car wash fundraiser
North Lincoln High School’s band booster will host a car wash 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Hardees and Fatz in Lincolnton.

Classic Car Cruise
Moore’s Chapel Baptist Church, 2320 E. Main St. in Lincolnton, will host an old car and truck cruise 11 a.m. Saturday. Free hot dog meals will be given to anyone with a car or truck. For more information, call (704) 530-3557.

Holy Fest

Football camp
City of Lincolnton Parks & Rec. and the Lincolnton High School Athletic Dept. is currently taking registration for a summer football camp (grades 3-9). Camp hours will be 9 a.m. to noon June 18-20 at the Lincolnton High School Football stadium. Individuals can register 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the Lentz Recreation Center at Betty G.
