George Alexander Robinson Jr.

IRON STATION — Mr. George Alexander Robinson Jr., age 85, of 5982 East Highway 27, Iron Station passed away on June 1, 2012 at Stanley Total Living Center.

His funeral service will be 3 p.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church in Stanley with the Rev. Dan King officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton. The family will receive friends today at First Presbyterian Church in Stanley from 1 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service.

Mr. Robinson was born on September 28, 1926 son of the late George and Ida Wallace Robinson. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Willia Dean Smith Robinson; three sisters Beaulah Reid, Marjorie Smith and Irene Summey.

Mr. Robinson worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier and was active in the Rural Letter Carriers’ Association and served as State President of the association in 1987. He was a lifetime member and served as an elder and Sunday School Teacher as well as a choir member of First Presbyterian Church in Stanley.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Bynum Fisher Robinson of the home; one son Bill Robinson and wife Freida of Iron Station; one daughter, Deborah Heath and husband Mark of Martinsville Va.; one sister Lillie Mae Rhyne of Gastonia; five grandchildren: Brad Heath of Iron Station, Matt Heath of Destin Fla., Ben Heath of Martinsville Va., Anna Friesenhahn and husband Mason of Alexis, Will Robinson of Iron Station; one great grandchild, Aiden Friesenhahn of Alexis; one stepson, Jeff Fisher of Iron Station; three stepdaughters, Eloise Adams of Charlotte, Janette Childers of Iron Station, Miriam Fisher of Iron Station; four step grand-children, Sherri Ireland of Taylorsville, Chris Childers of Tex., Eugene Childers of Taylorsville, and Alan Fisher of Conover.

Sarah Lindley Stroup

Sarah Lindley Stroup was born September 12, 1916 in Chatham County, N.C. She passed away May 30, 2012.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert N. and Annie M. Lindley and her three sisters and brother. Her two husbands, Bruce Pearson and Chauncey D. Stroup predeceased her as well.

She is survived by two step-children, C. Cecil Stroup and Jeanne S. Lockman. Her seven other step-children predeceased her, Lib Yelton, Dot Kiser, C.D. Stroup Jr., Virginia Ellington, Bill Stroup, Paul Stroup, and Dan Stroup. She is survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church involved in many organizations. She was a school teacher and an artist. Her artistic specialties included making bread dough flowers and animals for pictures and domes. She grew many varieties of flowers and made beautiful floral arrangements for church groups, weddings and parties. She was always called upon to make her famous cakes and cookies for church events.

Gathal Juanita Waters Eaker, 93, of Cherryville died June 2, 2012.

Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter’s Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral. Burial will be in City Memorial Cemetery, Cherryville.

Joseph A. “Joe” Bowman, 77, of Cherryville died May 31, 2012.

Visitation will be tonight from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Stamey~Cherryville Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held June 5, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Waco Baptist Church. Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Park, Fallston.

Mary Gragg Lovelace, 76, of Cherryville died June 1, 2012.

Visitation was held on June 2, 2012 from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Stamey~Cherryville Funeral Home. Funeral services were held on June 3, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Stamey~Cherryville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery.

Martin ‘Marty’ Keith Witherspoon, 55, of Maiden died May 31, 2012.

A graveside service was held on June 3, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. in Maiden City Cemetery. The family received friends on June 3, 2012 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Burke Mortuary, Newton prior to the service.
