Kay Barefoot welcomed 14 members of the Priscilla Book Club and former member Shelly Early to her home in the Sugar Shack for the May business meeting on May 9 at 3 p.m. While enjoying dessert and coffee, they were entertained with magic tricks by “Dan Dan the Magic Man,” Mrs. Barefoot’s husband, Daniel Barefoot.
President Sarah Lantz greeted the group and thanked the hostess for her hospitality and Mr. Barefoot for the delightful entertainment.
After an update on member news, President Lantz began the meeting by spotlighting the article “Momma Always Said” from Southern Living magazine in honor of Mother’s Day.
Following the business session, President Lantz called on Nelva Goodson, chair of the nominating committee, to present the nominees for officers for the biennium 2012-2014: President, Kay Barefoot; Vice President, Peggy Lafferty; Recording Secretary, Sara Miller; Treasurer, Becky Burke; and Corresponding Secretary, Lynda Flowe. The motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the slate of officers. They were then installed by President Lantz, who presented them with pots of yellow Gerbera daisies. Peggy Lafferty and Sara Miller were unable to attend.
Mrs. Lantz was given a gift from the club in appreciation of her leadership for the past two years.
In closing, she read the poem “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost.
The October meeting will be at the home of Pat Hance, and Libby Mize will be program leader.
