Larry Ray Bowman

Larry Ray Bowman, 66, of Lawndale, passed away on May 25, 2012 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. A service to celebrate his life will be at 3 p.m. today at Bible Baptist Church, Hickory. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce of 27 years; son, Larry Shane Bowman and wife Sheri of Vale; daughters, Denise Bowman Hull and husband Jeff of Hickory, Wendy Bowman Hovis and husband Sean of Hickory; grandchildren Scarlett Bowman, Caleb Hull, Courtney Hull and Carrigan Hull, Nick Hovis and Seana Hovis.

Larry was retired from Carving Craft in Hickory after 30 years. He was an avid farmer.

Keith Roland Boyte

Mr. Keith Roland Boyte, age 37, of 1069 Clemmay Trail in Lincolnton, passed away.

A memorial service will be 7:30 p.m. tonight in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gene Cole officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7:15 p.m. tonight prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Boyte was born January 1, 1975 in San Antonio, Tex. to Kenneth R. and Jean Maloch Boyte. He worked in furniture manufacturing. Keith was always looking to take care of others at any expense to himself. He enjoyed working with his hands whenever possible. He was a kind soul and will be missed by all who had the honor of meeting him.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Boyte of the home; his parents, Kenneth and Jean Boyte of Harrisburg; sister, Renee Goodman and husband Josh of Harrisburg; niece Sarah Goodman; nephew, Mark Goodman; half-sister, Tammy Boyte of Whitetop, Va.; and niece Jasmine Lee of Concord.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity.

Luther Gene Gilbert

Mr. Luther Gene Gilbert, age 83, of 131 Lakewood Avenue in Lincolnton, died on Thursday, May 24, 2012.

His funeral service was 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Doug McClain officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Gilbert was born October 7, 1928 to the late Luther Guy and Callie Smith Gilbert. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Johnson Gilbert; a brother, Farrell Gilbert; two sisters, Lib Elmore and Marie Kerley; and a son, Michael Gilbert. He served in the United States Army and then later worked as a supervisor in textiles.

He is survived by a daughter, Wanda Ewing of the home; two grandchildren, Stacy Adcock and husband Dean of Huntersville, and Jeff Ewing of Lincolnton; one great-grandson, Ethan Ewing; three sisters, Fuschia Smalls of Morganton, Ann Harris of Valdese, and Claudine Brooks of Cherryville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert Larry Link Sr.

Mr. Robert Larry Link Sr., age 74, of 2584 Brookwood Road in Lincolnton, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 25, 2012.

His graveside burial service was conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Forest Lawn Cemetery at 2858 E. Highway 150 in Lincolnton. His memorial service followed at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Pisgah United Methodist Church at 2582 Gastonia Highway in Lincolnton with Rev. Dr. Judy Eurey and Rev. Charles Stevens officiating. The family received friends following the service in the fellowship hall at Pisgah.

Mr. Link was born November 29, 1937 in Lincoln County to the late Andrew and Martha Maie Forbis Link. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Link and sister, Cecelia Link Parker Myers. Mr. Link was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1962 and subsequently retired from Carolina Mills in 2001. He was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Hazeline Houser Link; one daughter, Renee Link of Stanley; two sons, Robby Link and wife Helen Link of Denver, and Ricky Link of Lincolnton; and one granddaughter, Jessica Link.

In his later years, Mr. Link enjoyed spending time working on his yard, playing golf with friends, playing with his dog “Rosie,” tinkering with his antique Ford Thunderbird, and visiting with family and friends.

Sylvia Hazelene Sherrill Sigmon

MOUNT HOLLY — Sylvia Hazelene Sherrill Sigmon, 73, of 214 Dogwood Drive, died Saturday, May 26, 2012. She was born in Catawba County, daughter of Grace Caldwell Sherrill of Denver, and the late Fred Jonas Sherrill. She was a retired office manager with Bost Bakery in Charlotte. She was a former member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Denver and a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Mount Holly.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Leonard Alfred Sigmon; one son, Timothy Sigmon and his wife Gloria of Belmont; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Sigmon of Charlotte; one grandson, Paul Lanier and wife, Ashleigh of Mount Holly; one great granddaughter, Emma Ruth Lanier; one sister, Sue Sherrill of Denver; two brothers, Fred Junior Sherrill of Maiden, and Kenneth Sherrill and wife Becky of Catawba, NC.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Sigmon will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Bethel United Methodist Church, Denver with Reverend Tony Matthews officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

John Joseph Carl Hay Jr.

John Joseph Carl Hay Jr., 62, of Bessemer City, died May 24, 2012.

Memorial services were held May 27, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter’s Funeral Home. Burial was private. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Peggy Ann Cloninger Hughes

Peggy Ann Cloninger Hughes, 78, of High Shoals died May 25, 2012.

Her funeral service was held 2 p.m. on May 27, 2012 in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in High Shoals Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m., Sunday prior to the service at the funeral Home.

Catherline Smith Patterson, 63, of Iron Station, died May 24, 2012.

A memorial service will be held May 31, 2012 at 12 noon at Great Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Conover.

Billy “Bill” Darrell Burke, 81, of Maiden died May 27, 2012.

The funeral service will be held today at 4 p.m. at Center View Baptist Church, Maiden. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends, prior to the service, from 2:30 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. at the church.
