Larry Bell

SHELBY — Larry N. Bell, 71, of 1739 N. Post Rd., passed away at Cleveland Regional Medical Center on Saturday, May 19, 2012.

Born in Catawba County on December 9, 1940, he was a son of the late Edgar Manning Bell and Rosie Abernathy Bell. Mr. Bell retired as a sweger with CommScope in Catawba. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Bell was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Jerry Wimberly and Gene Gilleland.

He is survived by his wife of thirty years Barbara Ann McSwain Bell; son, Gary Bell and wife Sharon of Sherrills Ford; daughter, Karen Hartsoe and husband Jeff of Maiden; step daughter, Anita Baker and husband Jeff of Shelby; brother, Arnold Bell of Newton; sisters, Almetta Wimberley of Maiden, Betty Gilleland of Maiden and Millie Clark and husband Ken of Spruce Pine; grandchildren, Amber Hartsoe Griffin, Dwayne Hartsoe, Amanda Baker and Caleb Baker and great grandchild Dustin Hartsoe.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. Ronell Owensby officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Clarence James Lowe Sr.

MAIDEN — Mr. Clarence James Lowe, Sr., age 88, of 6303 Startown Road in Maiden, died on Thursday, May 17, 2012.

His funeral service will be 11 a.m. today at Crowell Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Porter officiating. The body will lie in state for thirty minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mr. Lowe was born August 21, 1923 in Wilkes County to the late Mack Coleman and Anne Jones Lowe. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Georgie Lee Reep Lowe, and two brothers, M.C. Lowe and Charlie Lowe. He was a dairy farmer. In addition, Mr. Lowe served in the United States Army and Air Force during World War II.

He is survived by one son, Clarence James “Jim” Lowe Jr. and wife Karen of Charlotte; three daughters, Nancy Johnson and husband Ray “Peanut” of Lincolnton, Carolyn “Cookie” Lowe of the home, and Kathy Lawing and husband Mike of Maiden; two brothers, Holly Lowe and Butch Lowe, both of West Palm Beach, Fla.; four sisters, Edith Garrison of West Palm Beach, Fla., Effie Tyre of Holiday, Fla., Goldie Bryant of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Joann Carpenter of Cherryville; five grandchildren, Wendy Johnson, Angie McCorkle and husband Richard, Brian Lawing and wife Krystal, Tesha Davis and husband Steve, and Chris Conner; and four great-grandchildren, Conner Davis, Edie Pate, Cameron Isaacs, and Sophie Lawing.

Alice March Murray, 96, of Shelby died May 16, 2012.

Graveside services will be held May 22, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Forsyth Memorial Park, Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Carpenter’s Funeral Home.

Frank Slamar Jr.

Frank Slamar Jr., 91, of Conover died May 17, 2012.

A Memorial Service will be held in the Memorial Gardens at Abernathy Laurels at a later date.

Frances Madeline Lynn

Frances Madeline Lynn, 94, of Cherryville died May 17, 2012.

A Memorial service was held May 20, 2012 at 3 p.m. at Second Baptist Church. Burial was in City Memorial Cemetery. The family received friends May 19, 2012 at Carpenter’s Funeral Home, Cherryville from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. and at other times at the home

Lee Stevens

Lee Theodore Stevens, 70, of Conover died May 18, 2012.

A memorial service will be held May 23, 2012 at 3 p.m. at the Burke Mortuary Chapel, Newton.

The family will receive friends May 23, 2012 from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at the funeral home, prior to the service.

An additional service will be held at a later date by the Devoe Funeral Home in Washington, NJ.

John Roberts ‘Bob’ Murdock Jr.

John Roberts “Bob” Murdock Jr., 88, of Cherryville died May 17, 2012.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. May 22, 2012 at Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 10:45 p.m. prior to the services at Carpenter’s Funeral Home.
