PUMPKIN CENTER — The North Lincoln Lady Knights rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure a 3-2 win over the West Lincoln Lady Rebels in the third round of the 2A state playoffs on Friday.
Mallory Bolen drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the sixth and Jayden Maddox reached first base on a fielding error. Shauna Griffin smacked and RBI single on her first pitch from West Lincoln’s Rylee Marsh to give the Lady Knights their first run of the game.
Starting pitcher Hollyn Franklin gave the Lady Knights a 3-2 lead when, on the first pitch from Marsh, she hit a two-RBI double to centerfield.
The Lady Rebels got their first runner in scoring position in the bottom of the first when Courtney Clark hit a one-out double to centerfield, but Brittany Ormand hit a fly ball to centerfield and Clark was tagged out to end the inning.
West Lincoln posted its first run in the top of the second. Bayleigh Fishel hit a ground ball up the middle of the field for a single and then stole second base during Madison Ferguson’s at-bat.
Fishel crossed home plate on a throwing error when Katie Hively hit a ground ball to second base that was thrown over the first baseman’s head.
The Lady Rebels added on more run in the bottom of the fifth when leadoff batter Karsen Leonhardt crushed a fastball over the left field fence for a solo home run and West Lincoln’s final run of the game.
West Lincoln was stifled in the top of the seventh by three strikeouts by reliever Payton Wilson.
Franklin pitched the win for North Lincoln in four innings and struck out five West Lincoln batters. Wilson struck out five batters in three innings of relief work.
Marsh took the loss for the Lady Rebels and struck out two batters, with one walk.
