An update on the 2012-2013 Board of Education budget will be on the schedule for tonight’s Lincoln County School Board meeting.
The board will report on its meeting held with commissioners on Monday, when the projected $158,000 requested for the following fiscal year was discussed.
Superintendent Sherry Hoyle will give further updates on the budget, which will also include a $5,669 adjustment for “non-instructional support.”
Executive Director of Facilities Darrell Gettys will update the board on the progress of construction in schools around the county. New softball field fences, concession stands, sidewalks and roof work are among the various on-going projects Gettys and his team are currently working on.
Schools and students will be recognized for achievements tonight as well, such as Rock Springs Elementary, which was selected as a UNC-Charlotte Professional Development School for the next two years, starting in August.
The school will receive a $3,000 grant and will become part of a 15-school network that focuses on teacher development and improvement.
Another notable to be mentioned tonight, Lincolnton High senior Zachary Fitzgerald, who recently received the Park Scholarship for college in the fall – an award for students who plan to attend N.C. State. Fitzgerald is the first LHS student to receive the scholarship.
The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the school board office, 353 N. Generals Blvd. in Lincolnton.
