Deputies said they are on the hunt for a man who pointed a handgun at a Lincolnton store clerk Monday night before fleeing the business with money.
An employee at Ricky’s Food Mart, located at 1899 Gastonia Highway in Lincolnton, reported the robbery to the Communications Center around 10:30 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office said.
A man entered the convenience store and used a handgun to demand money from the on-duty clerk, according to a press release.
The man also forced the employee to remain under the counter while he removed the cash drawer and ran out of the store, headed south on Gastonia Highway, deputies said.
Sheriff’s detectives later responded to the scene with a K-9 unit to track down the robber. It wasn’t long before the unit lost the man’s scent and couldn’t proceed, the release said.
Deputies believe the gunman eventually fled the area in a vehicle parked close to the store.
The Sheriff’s Office described the man as black, 5-foot-8-inches tall, with a “skinny build” and weighing about 150 pounds. The clerk told deputies the man had been wearing a black hoodie, black pants and black shoes at the time of the incident.
An investigation into the robbery is ongoing.
