E. Lowell Beard

MAIDEN — Edward Lowell Beard, age 71, of Maiden passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at his residence.

Born October 19, 1940 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Paul Lowell Beard and the late Margaret Barringer Beard. In addition to his parents, three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. He worked in the furniture industry, as a Catawba County Sheriff’s deputy, and in the restaurant business.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Nieta Stallings Beard of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin Beard and Susan of Lincolnton; three grandchildren, Trey Calaway and wife Lauren of Lincolnton, Michelle Wilson and husband Andy of Charlotte, Jonna Beard of Lincolnton and fiance’, John Hughes Jr. of Claremont; two brothers, Robert A. Sherrill of Newton, Alvin Beard of Newton; sister, Elizabeth Rozelle of Newton.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Living Word Church in Maiden with Pastor Rick Haug and Pastor Kevin Beard officiating. Burial will follow at Maiden City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends, prior to the service, from 12 noon until 1:45 p.m. at the church.

Tracie ‘Janey’ Mashburn Uribe

RUTHERFORDTON — Tracie “Janey” Mashburn Uribe, age 50, of 108 Branch Street in Rutherfordton, died on Wednesday, March 21, 2012.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 25, 2012 in theWarlick Funeral HomeChapel with Pastor Bill Draughn officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. on Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Uribe was born January 29, 1962 in Mecklenburg County to Virginia Woodard Mashburn and the late Floyd Mashburn. She was a certified nursing assistant.

She is survived by her husband, Tomas Uribe of Asheville; one son, Tomas Sosa of Lincolnton; one daughter, Maya Sosa of Lincolnton; one sister, Darlene Hollar of Lincolnton; and her mother, Virginia W. Mashburn of Lincolnton.

Ezra Hartman

08/24/1917 – 3/22/2012

William Ezra Hartman, 94, of Wright Road, Vale, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center – Lincoln in Lincolnton.

Mr. Hartman was born in Lincoln County on August 24, 1917, to the late Christy A. Hartman and Dovie Brittain Hartman. He was retired from Howard Construction Company of Lincolnton as a carpenter. He was a member of Reeps Grove United Methodist Church and also served in the US Army for a year and a half and then in the US Navy for two and half more years.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Inez Leonhardt Hartman; four brothers, Russell, Fred, Clyde and Conley A. Hartman; and one sister, Gustaver Davis.

He is survived by one sister, Ody Johnson of Lincolnton and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held tonight from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston. Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday at Reeps Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Vale. Officiating will be Rev. Harry Andrews.

Brian Stephen  Reece

Brian Stephen Reece, age 48, of Mountain City, Tenn., surrounded by his family, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.  Brian was born on April 21, 1963 to Steve and Elaine Reece.

Brian enjoyed cars, farming, gardening and had a passion for building. He also enjoyed visiting his friends and socializing. He was the Johnson County High School’s Girls Basketball Team’s #1 fan.  More than anything, Brian enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and his special daughter.  He tried to enjoy each day to the fullest.

Brian was a member of Ackerson Creek Christian Church.

In addition to his parents, Steve and Elaine Reece of Trade, Tenn., Brian is survived by his loving wife, Donna Reece; his daughter, Brionna Reece; sons and daughters-in-law, Sean and Bridget Kleine and Jay and Kim Kleine; brothers and sisters-in-law, Steve Jr. and Lorie Reece, Barry and Brenda Reece and Quint and Luci Reece; grandchildren, Chase Kleine, Hazlee Kleine and Kendyl Kleine; nieces and nephews, Matthew Reece, Jeremy Reece, Nancy Reece, Trevor Reece, Joe Nickle, Kristin Nickle, Lisa Nickle, Jill Nickle; special cousins, Rick and wife Chrissy Roop and their children, Jeremy and Logan, Johnny and Donna Jennings and their children,  Jessi, Jake and Josh, Pat Scott and her daughter, Nicky, Gary Osborne and his children, Amanda and Wayne and Debbie Pennington; sister-in-law, Dianna Nickle; several special aunts and uncles; very special friends, Bill and Glenda Reece and their families and many, many more friends, too numerous to name.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at theMountain City Funeral HomeChapel with a Memorial Service to follow at 4 p.m. with Minister Bill Reece to officiate.

Pallbearers are John Forrester, Rick Widener, Brandon Furches, Nathan Pratter, Skip Coverdale, Mike Poteet, Rick Roop, Shannon Harper, Alan Pearson and Chris Reece.

Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Jim Shine and members of Johnson County Rescue Squad and EMS.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Brian’s memory to the Johnson County Cancer Support Group, c/o Flo Bellamy, 3510 Hwy 421 N., Mountain City, TN 37683.

John ‘Danny’ Stephens

John “Danny” Stephens, 58, of Conover died Mar. 18, 2012.

A funeral service will be held today at 2 p.m. at Burke Mortuary Chapel, Newton. Burial will follow at Conover City Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Burke Mortuary, Newton, prior to the service.

Valerie Graham Crabtree

Valerie Graham Crabtree, 77, of Newton died Mar. 21, 2012.

Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Hickory Seventh-Day Adventist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The interment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

Diane Roberta Bracey

Diane Roberta Bracey, 55, of Lincolnton died Mar. 20, 2012.

Funeral services will be held Mar. 25, 2012 at 3 p.m. at Hinton Memorial United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes at the church prior to the service.

Gary Dean Parker

Gary Dean Parker, 56, of Terrell died Mar. 20, 2012.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at Rehobeth United Methodist Church. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family received friends Mar. 22, 2012 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.
