Amanda Dango of Lincolnton joined her fellow students at the North Carolina School of Science and Math (NCSSM) in its third annual food drive on Saturday, March 3. Together, they raised a total of 78,770 pounds of food to be donated to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, thanks to support from students, volunteers and donations. Students also competed against each other in a residence hall versus residence hall competition, raising more than $16,000.
Dango attended Lincolnton High School before enrolling at NCSSM for her junior and senior years. She will graduate this spring. Her parents are Becky and Gil Dango.
The NCSSM Food Drive is a student-run effort battling childhood hunger.
