Lincoln County deputies aided Catawba County authorities last week in apprehending a man accused of stealing a South Carolina man’s motorcycle.
A local citizen told authorities that Andre Lee Cordova Smith, 37, of 2324 North St. in Lincolnton, tried to sell him a stolen motorcycle, according to a Sheriff’s Office press release.
Deputies said they pursued Smith on Thursday while he was traveling by motorcycle into Catawba County. Authorities stopped him in Maiden and arrested him, charging Smith with one felony count of possession of stolen goods.
The $9,000 motorcyle belonged to Raymond Moore Jr., of South Carolina, authorities said.
Smith was given a $10,000 unsecured bond for the theft.
According to Capt. Joel Fish of the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, Smith had previously been arrested on a driving violation and assault charge but posted a $9,000 bond on Tuesday.
The North Carolina Department of Correction website revealed that Smith spent at least 11 months behind bars in 1999 for embezzling in Lincoln County. An additional felony conviction is listed on his record from 1996 for drug possession in the county.
His additional misdemeanor offenses include assault with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon against an executive/legislative officer, drug use, DWI and driving with a revoked license.
