The West Lincoln Rebels opened Southern Piedmont Conference play with a 5-0 victory over the Cherryville Ironmen.
West Lincoln senior Cameron High allowed only one hit to the Ironmen, and was pitching a no-hitter headed into the final inning of play.
Brett Huff hit a double to right field to start the game for the Rebels. Dalton Towery hit a single that moved Huff to third. Huff eventually scored on a wild pitch for the Rebelsâ€™ first run of the game. The Rebels added two more runs in the first inning, and finished with a squeeze bunt by Krishna Rana before the Ironmen picked off a West Lincoln runner to end the inning.
Huff added an RBI in the top of the second with a single after Nick Fisher reached first on a walk and then stole second.
Chandler Jenkins hit a single to bring Huff home and put the Rebels ahead 5-0.
Huff led the Rebels on offense with four hits. Towery had three hits, and West Lincoln as a whole had 11 hits for the game.
High finished the game with nine strikeouts, including three in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Rebels host Bessemer City on Tuesday.
