Lady Wolves fall to Maiden Blue Devils

LINCOLNTON — The Lincolnton Lady Wolves got their first win of the season on Tuesday with an 11-5 victory over the Newton-Conover Lady Red Devils. That momentum was stifled by the  Maiden Lady Blue Devils on Wednesday in a 14-0 rout in the Lady Wolves’ final game of nonconference play.
Lincolnton begins Southern Piedmont Conference play today at 4:30 p.m. against the Highland Tech Lady Rams.
The Lady Wolves had two hits in the game. Jada Mayo earned a single in the bottom of the fourth and Nadia Byers hit a single up the middle of the field in the bottom of the fifth.
After opening the game with four runs in the top of the first, Maiden added two more in the top of second with Mollie Sigmon’s two-RBI single to left field.
The Lady Blue Devils exploded for six runs in the top of the third, including a two-out, two-run home run over the center field fence by Lindsey Schronce. Christian Childers reached first on an infield single to start the inning, and two batters later Carsyn Patton reached first on a fielding error as Childers crossed home. Emily Crouse brought Patton home with a sacrifice ground ball to second base. Hannah Callahan hit a two-RBI single to right field before Ricki Ruhn flew out to end the inning.
Maiden scored a run in both the fourth and fifth innings, with Caroline Ward’s RBI-double to center field in the fourth and Sigmon’s two-out RBI-single in the fifth.
