Lincoln County deputies are looking for two men who stole nearly a dozen burial vaults earlier this week from a Lincolnton cemetery.
The incident is the fourth theft on the property since late last year, deputies said.
According to a Sheriff’s Office press release, a black male and a white male were each seen on video surveillance just before 10 p.m. Tuesday walking in an area of Forest Lawn Cemetery, on Highway 150 East, where the vaults, which are used to house the caskets, are stored.
Surveillance video also showed a truck backing up and pulling away from the property with vaults loaded in the back, the release said. A total of 10 vaults, valued at $10,000, were removed, authorities said.
Deputies noted that three other similar incidents have been reported at the cemetery since mid-December, and more than 50 vaults have been stolen.
Authorities believe the suspects are driving a full-size Chevrolet or GMC extended cab pickup.
Anyone with information in the incident or any other suspicious activity near the cemetery can call Lt. Tim Johnson at (704) 736-8864, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at (704) 732-9050 or Crime Stoppers at (704) 736-8909.
Tips may remain anonymous, and any tips leading to an arrest could receive a reward of up to $1,000.
