David Lee Travis Sr.

David Lee Travis Sr. 77, died Feb. 19, 2012.

Services are today at 2 p.m. at New Bethel Church of Shelby. The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Feb. 21, 2012 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow at Sunset Cemetery.

Dr. Henry Craig Harrelson

Dr. Henry Craig Harrelson, 91, of Charlotte, formerly of Cherryville died Feb. 19, 2012.

A graveside service will be held today at 2 p.m. at City Cemetery in Cherryville. The family will receive friends at Carpenter’s Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Laura Goodson

Laura Goodson, 86, of Maiden died Feb. 19, 2012.

Funeral services will be held today at 4 p.m. at Lawing’s Chapel Baptist Church, Maiden. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. at the church.

Dorothy Elise Burke Cathey

Dorothy Elise Burke Cathey, age 88, Lincolnton, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at CMC Lincoln. Born August 19, 1923 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Jacob E. Burke and the late Hettie Bynum Burke.  Dot was a member of Cornerstone Church in Maiden.  She spent much of her time bringing comfort and companionship to the elderly by visiting them in their homes and nursing facilities.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Grady W. Cathey; three brothers; and two sisters.

She is survived by two sons, E. Colby Cathey and wife Lynne of Charlotte, Timothy D. Cathey of Raleigh; grandson,  Burke Cathey and fiancée Anna Smith of Atlanta, Ga.; granddaughter, Carson Cathey of Raleigh; great-grandson, Angus Cathey of Atlanta, Ga.; numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Cornerstone Church in Maiden with Rev. Rusty Craig officiating.

Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery in Lincolnton.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lincoln County.

Elizabeth Gilland Caldwell White

HUNTERSVILLE — Elizabeth Gilland Caldwell White, age 53, of 15509 Old Statesville Road in Huntersville, died on Monday, February 20, 2012.

Services will be private.

Mrs. White was born September 20, 1958.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Everette Able “Buck” Caldwell and Willie Gilland Caldwell. She worked in operations for Mountain Air Cargo.

She is survived by her husband, Roger White of Huntersville; one son, Adam Caldwell of Catawba; daughter, Ms. Ashley Caldwell of Huntersville; two stepsons, Travis White and Harley White of Granite Falls; five grandchildren, Landon, Savannah, Noah, Cayden, and WestLee.

Kathy Faye Lail Houser

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Kathy Faye Lail Houser passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2012, after a year-long battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, Ashley F. Houser; daughter, Kara Houser Law and son-in-law, Chris; son, Austin; grandson, Alex; and parents, Joe and Faye Lail of Maiden. She also leaves sisters, Trina Stamey (David) of Newton and Becky Simpson (Ken) of Monroe; brother, Rick Lail (Cynthia) of Vanceboro; sister-in-law, Linda Cooke (Ron) of Cherryville; sister-in-law, Frankie Godfrey of Cherryville; brother-in-law, Jim Houser (Joyle) of Vale and many loving nieces and nephews.

Kathy was born September 25, 1952 in Maiden and graduated from Maiden High School and Gaston College. After a brief career in textiles and fashion merchandising, her focus was that of a loving homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother “Ginny.”

Kathy was a member of Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church and the New Genesis Sunday School Class. She was an accomplished mixed media artist, quilter and a published and award winning doll artist and instructor. Many hours of her time, talent and love were given to Family Connection of S.C. Kathy made over 300 charity quilts and 60 pillowcase dresses for mission work. Many of her quilts were donated to the neonatal unit at Children’s Hospital of Richland Memorial for which Kathy and Ashley share a special love. She was a member of numerous quilt guilds and doll clubs including the Greater Columbia Quilt Guild, A Stitch in Time, Divine Quilters, Stuff It’s and Go Figure Doll.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February, 21, 2012, at Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church, 5503 Sunset Blvd. Lexington. Friends were received at the church before the service at 1 p.m.

Everyone knew of Kathy’s love for The John C. Campbell Folk School.  In lieu of flowers, her request was that donations be made to The John C. Campbell Folk School, One Folk School Road, Brasstown, NC, 28902.

Jessie Edwina Davies Yuhasz

HUNTERSVILLE — Jessie Edwina Davies Yuhasz, age 82, of Olde Knox Commons in Huntersville, died on Sunday, February 12, 2012.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at St. Peters-by-the-Lake Episcopal Church in Denver with Rev. Ron Taylor officiating.

Mrs. Yuhasz was born September 3, 1929 in New Hope, Pa. to the late Edward and Jessie Bennet Davies. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Steve Frank Yuhasz; brother, James Davies, and sister’s Agnes Kozachek and Margaret Salkowitz. She was a retired bookkeeper.

She is survived by two sons, Steve Yuhasz of Hillsborough and Edward Yuhasz and wife Karen of Spotswood, N.J.; daughters, Elizabeth Clark and husband Phillip of Denver and Mary Griffin of Lincolnton; daughter-in-law, Beverly, of Hillsborough; one sister, Jean Hay of Ala.; sister-in-law, Doris Davies; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
