SPARTANBURG (AP) â€” Nelson Smith of Garner High will coach the North Carolina team while Ray Stackley of Stratford will coach the South Carolina team in next yearâ€™s Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.
Athletic director Ron Long of the Shrine Bowl announced the coaching staff for both teams Thursday. The all-star game between the top senior prep players from North and South Carolina takes place Dec. 15 at Wofford Collegeâ€™s Gibbs Stadium in Spartanburg.
Joining Smith on the Tar Heels staff are West Forsythâ€™s Adrian Snow, Douglas Byrdâ€™s Russell Stone, Davie Countyâ€™s Doug Illing, Hendersonvilleâ€™s B.J. Laughter, East Lincolnâ€™s Mike Byus and Walter Williamsâ€™ Davis Grant.
On Stackleyâ€™s Sandlappers staff are Airportâ€™s Kirk Burnett, Blue Ridgeâ€™s Wade Cooper, Christ Churchâ€™s Don Frost, Bufordâ€™s Mile Wells, Newberryâ€™s Bill Harvey and Stratfordâ€™s Tony Smith.
