A couple was jailed Saturday after city police said they found them fighting with knives at a Lincolnton residence.

Officers responded to 40-year-old Robert Keith Crawley’s home at 420 S. Government St. in Lincolnton where he and 45-year-old girlfriend Alyece Reep Ward, of 1420 Lucy Dr. in Lincolnton, had been involved in a domestic situation involving kitchen knives, Det. Sgt. Matt Painter said.

Both Crawley and Ward sustained injuries in the incident. Police said Crawley received a cut on his leg, and Ward suffered a cut on her arm.

The couple was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Painter said the duo used to live together and both had been drunk at the time of the incident.

Ward was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, while Crawley faces misdemeanor assault on a female, according to police reports.

Each suspect has since been released from the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center, Ward on a $1,000 bond and Crawley on a $2,500 bond.

According to the North Carolina Department of Correction website, Crawley spent at least three years in prison for second-degree kidnapping in the county in 2003.

He was also convicted of assault with a deadly weapon a decade earlier.
