An abandoned house that had been in the process of being demolished was reduced to ashes Thursday evening in the western part of the county.
Union Fire Department was the first engine to arrive on scene, responding to the residence at 1655 Cat Square Rd. just after 7 p.m., at which time the structure was engulfed in flames and already on the ground, firefighters said.
No one was inside the building, and a cause remains unknown at this time.
Crews from Howards Creek and North Brook Fire Departments provided mutual aid while authorities said Emergency Medical Services remained on standby.
The Lincoln County Fire Marshal’s Office said it is continuing to investigate the incident.
