A man tried to steal items from a Lincolnton business and flee the store but was apprehended by the area’s groundskeeper, police said.

Johnathon Lee Bradshaw, 27, of 1507 Atlantic Lane in Lincolnton, was in the Dollar Tree, at 644 Center Drive, just after 5 p.m. Sunday when a police report said he stuck three packs of batteries, aspirin and a utility knife inside his jacket and ran out the door.

James Davis, the “grounds keeper,” stopped Bradshaw on his way out of the business and banned him from the property, police said.

Bradshaw has been charged with one misdemeanor count of larceny.

He remains in the county jail under an $800 secured bond and is expected to make his next court appearance on Jan. 31.
