Deputies are looking for a man accused of stealing a tractor-trailer cab from a Charlotte trucking company Wednesday and using it to take several hundred tires from a trailer stored at a second trucking company in Lincolnton.
According to a Sheriff’s Office press release, a man driving the truck cab, owned by Atlantic Coast Conference Logistics, was spotted hooking up to a trailer filled with more than 500 tires at the Lincolnton site of Barnes Transportation Services on Finger Mill Road.
When local law enforcement officials later contacted authorities at Barnes, they were told that the company doesn’t work with ACC trucks. In addition, a release said that during the past week, the owner of ACC’s sole freightliner had been out of work.
Deputies located the trailer without the cab in an area on Statesville Road in Charlotte, a release said. In addition, according to authorities, the tires, valued at more than $50,000, were missing from inside the trailer.
Deputies said they’re currently looking for a black man named “John Hayes†or “Hanes,†the name they found written on the trucking company’s paperwork. He is described as being 5-foot-9 and weighing 230 pounds.
Those with information in the incident can contact Sheriff’s detectives Lester White or Matt Lykins at (704) 736-8856 or Lincolnton-Lincoln County Crime Stoppers at (704) 736-8909. Tips may remain anonymous, and any tips leading to an arrest are eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
